Acts 8:1-13

* Persecution Spreads the Gospel: The persecution that began with Stephen’s death caused believers to scatter, which served to spread the Gospel rather than stop it. God turned a bad situation into a catalyst for fulfilling the Great Commission.

* The Gospel is for Everyone: Philip (one of the Seven) breaks barriers by preaching in Samaria, a region overlooked or despised by Jews. The salvation of the Ethiopian eunuch further shows that the Gospel is not limited by race or status, but is for all people.

* Sincere Belief vs. Superficial Faith: Simon the sorcerer believed and was baptized, but his heart was not truly changed, as he tried to buy the power of the Holy Spirit. Peter warns him that his heart was not right before God and that salvation is a gift, not a commodity.

* Obedience in Ministry: Philip obeys the Holy Spirit's promptings immediately, leaving a successful revival in Samaria to go to a desert road, showing that obedience is more important than comfort or personal success.

* The Importance of Sharing Scripture: Philip uses the Isaiah prophecy to explain Jesus to the Ethiopian eunuch, demonstrating the power of sharing the Bible to reveal Jesus as the savior.

* Joy Follows the Gospel: Despite the, in some cases, "understandable sorrow" of the persecution, the reception of the Gospel brings "great joy" in the city of Samaria.
