Guard Against False Teaching:

Paul warns that some will depart from the faith in later times by following deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons. False teachers often promote man-made rules, like forbidding marriage or abstaining from certain foods. Everything God created is good and meant to be received with thanksgiving, sanctified by the Word of God and prayer

Train for Godliness:

While physical training has some physical benefits, spiritual training is profitable for all things, holding promises for this life and the life to come. Believers are instructed to reject profane fables and instead focus entirely on developing a godly character.

Lead by Example:

Timothy is told to "let no one despise your youth," meaning his age shouldn't disqualify him from being an effective leader. To earn respect, a leader must be an example to believers in Word, Conduct, Love, Spirit, Faith and Purity.

Devotion to Ministry:

Leaders must give attention to the public reading of Scripture, exhortation, and teaching.  Do not neglect the spiritual gifts you have been given, and meditate on these truths so your spiritual progress is evident to everyone. "Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine". Faithful living and correct teaching go hand-in-hand, ensuring salvation for both the minister and those who listen.
