1 Thessalonians 5
* Prepare for the Unexpected Return: Jesus will return suddenly like a "thief in the night".
Christians should not be caught off guard but live ready for this event.
* Live as Children of the Light: As those belonging to the day, believers must avoid spiritual
lumber (apathy) and intoxication (sinful living), staying alert and self-controlled.
* Equip Yourself with Spiritual Armor: Defend against spiritual enemies by wearing the breastplate
of faith and love, and using the hope of salvation as a helmet.
* Build Community and Encourage Others: Believers should build each other up, respect their
leaders, and support the faint-hearted and weak.
* Maintain a Heart of Joy and Gratitude: The chapter instructs to "rejoice always," "pray without
ceasing," and "give thanks in everything," as this is God's will.
* Test and Keep What is Good: Christians are warned not to stifle the Holy Spirit or despise
prophesying, but to evaluate all things and hold fast to what is good.
* Abstain from Evil: Followers should avoid all forms of evil and not repay anyone with evil, but
pursue good to everyone.
* God's Promise of Sanctification: God is faithful and will sanctify believers completely—spirit, soul,
and body—and keep them blameless for Christ's coming.
